food and drinks, and some nice conversations and meeting new people who have
found out about the VS&TC. I look forward to completing the 2010 "South

I know the good members
of the club don't need a reminder for when the meetings are, because they
are always on the last Monday of every month EXCEPT December, so that means
counting TONIGHT, there are only 2 meetings left for this year. And as some
people have already heard, I will NOT be an officer of any kind with the
Victoria Skeet and Trap Club next year !!! I WILL continue to run my
registered trapshoots as the club's "Trap Chairman" and help the new slate
of officers wherever I can lend a positive hand.
...I only hope the next president can continue to make this club the
"showcase" (my personal opinion) of any club here in South Texas. Good luck
to the new officers for 2010.
Thanks, (Have Fun and Shoot Well)

Below are the results for the first Wednesday night Pot Shoot of the year
at the Victoria Skeet and Trap Club held last night (March 12, 2008). We

them), so mark your calendars and come out and make one of these events. We
typically shoot 50 targets consisting of 2 of the different games we have at
VS&TC. Shoots start at 5:00 PM and we take sign-ins up to 6:30 PM. Cost of
these Wednesday night shoot is $15.00 and $6.00 of each entry fee go in the
prize pot and everyone shoots off for class money awards. Give it a try!!!!!

The Victoria Skeet and Trap Club
"Home of the South Texas Fun Shoot"
Attention members:
Last night we held our annual "Election of Officers" meeting at the club and
voted in the new officers for the 2008 shooting season. We also voted on a
couple of very important items that all members need to know about.
Probably the most important change (especially monetarily) is that we are
going up on the price for the rounds at the club. For new shooters; a round
is 25 targets (a round of skeet, trap or county doubles) or easier to
remember, a round of one of these games takes a box of shells. The new price
increase will start on MARCH 1, 2008, so you have about a month and a week
to purchase tickets books at their existing price of $30.00 for a book of 10
coupons (good for 1 round each) or $300.00 for the special 10 coupon book
package + 1 extra for buying in quantity. Current member cash price of $4.00
per round and guest fees of $5.00 per round will also be good until February
29, 2008.
The FIRST big change for all members (and their guests) is; as of MARCH 1,
2008; the NEW cost of a book of tickets will be $35.00 (and we will still be
doing the buy 10 books + get 1 free for $350.00; making this your best "bang
for the buck"). The NEW cost for members paying with CASH or CHECK will be
$5.00 per round. The NEW cost for guests or visitors to our club will be
$6.00 per round. Remember, members are NOT to use your skeet tickets to pay
for your guests rounds. This is a perk of your membership and maybe a good
incentive to have your guest think about joining our club. With the cost of
members CASH rounds going up more than the cost of members rounds when using
tickets, We (the club) hope more people will utilize the ticket method of
paying for your shooting. We also talked out visitors to our club; if we
asked them and find out that they are a current member of another club, we
will let them shoot for our members CASH or CHECK price of $5.00 per round.
This reciprocal perk helps save them $1.00 per round and may also help
spread the good word about our club as they go back to their home club.
The Second big change for all members is that we voted on changing from when
the yearly memberships starts and ends. So instead of running from February
1 thru the end of January of the following year, we will be going to a true
CALENDAR year of January 1 thru the end of December of the same year. So for
this year, the membership will be over on December 31, 2008 and as some of
you already know, this is one month shorter than previous years, so to help
make up for this, we will be having more shoots during the 2008 shooting
season, so you can maybe enjoy your club even more during these events. This
change will help greatly with the financial bookkeeping of the club and make
the IRS and taxes much easier to work with.
I would like to thank everyone who came out for last nights meeting, (we had
a lot of new faces and new members that have joined us for 2008) and as of
this morning, we are already over 100 members. A record number of members,
for being only 1 day into the new year. As I have said in a previous e-mail,
we finished the 2007 year with around 185 members (140 yearly members and
another 45 who joined up during our pro-rated membership drive that started
in Sept. of 2007). Also thanks to everyone who signed up to help run one of
the Wednesday night Pot Shoots. We appreciate all of the volunteer help.
Also had a couple of new members volunteer to help with some small projects
that will going on soon at the club and also thanks to J.W. Lemke for his
monetary donation to go toward one of these projects.
I am still in the process of working on a grant with the "Friends of the
NRA" for moneys to go toward construction of our new 5-stand range. They
need a little additional paperwork and hopefully, it shouldn't take much
more to satisfy their requirements. I'm forever learning the grant writing
process. Takes more work than you might think.
The "New" Officers for the 2008 shooting year at the VS&TC are:
Mike Hessong President
Jason Yandell Vice President
Connie Waldorff Treasurer
Walter Gillett Secretary
Tommy Barker Head Range Officer
Carlton Migura Range Officers

Attention members:
Just wanted to let the membership know of some interesting statistics that I
have compiled over the last few days. I went out to the club early yesterday
and completed the target totals for the 2007 shooting year. I have also
included the "Top 20" shooters (in number of rounds shot at the club). One
of the shooters asked that his name not be used, so to respect his wishes,
there are only 19 names listed in the "Top 20".
For record keeping purposes; when I talk about a round of targets shot, I
mean 25 targets. There are 135 targets in a case (or box) of clay birds and
there are 63 cases in a pallet of clay birds.
For year 2007: (practice rounds recorded in the book)
7,190 practice rounds (up 619 rounds from 2006 total)
(This is the total for rounds registered in the log book).
In addition to the 7,190 practice rounds (which by the way is 179,750
targets or 1,331 cases of targets or 21.1 pallets of targets), we also shot
2,010 competition rounds (50,250 targets/372 cases/5.9 pallets). These
competition rounds are for our (14) Wednesday nite pot shoots, our (3) large
Sunday shoots, our (4) registered skeet shoots and our (4) registered
trapshoots.
So the total number of targets thrown at the VS&TC in 2007 is 230,000.
(Almost a quarter million targets by our "small" club. Not really so small
are we???). 9,200 rounds (230,000 targets/1703 cases/27 pallets).
For your information; 24 pallets is a whole truck load of targets from White
Flyer!!!! Thanks to Darrell Hester and Victoria All Sports Center
(White Flyer Distributor) for keeping our range stocked with targets so we
have something to shoot at. The main trap field and the main skeet field are
low on targets now, but Darrell will be delivering more, hopefully this
week.
Also, some interesting side notes; 777 rounds shot were by our "Thursday"
night shooters, who mainly shoot on the trap fields (i.e. Annie Oakleys and
Bush-wacker) and the Victoria County 4-H shotgun Team shot 165 rounds of
practice this year.
The Top 20 shooters at the V.S.& T.C. for 2007:
1. (asked that his name not be used)
2. Bob Butchee 528 rounds
3. Mike Hessong 345 rounds
4. Duane Muncrief 342 rounds
5. Dave Baker 245 rounds
6. Ken Kloesel Sr. 176 rounds
7. Bill Barnhill Jr. 165 rounds
8. Kyle Meismer 117 rounds
9. Jason Yandell 82 rounds
10. Tommy Barker 81 rounds
11. Robert Gilliam 79 rounds
12. Swede Carlson 83 rounds
13. W.T. Barnhill 78 rounds
14. Bob Jones 70 rounds
15. Mark Moore 65 rounds
16. Walter Gillett 62 rounds
17. Roscoe Johnston 50 rounds
18. David Rice 37 rounds
19. David Hairell 37 rounds
20. Billy Yandell 32 rounds
Our club now has over 185 members; the largest number of members ever in the
history of this club (or even during the years the club was the Victoria Gun
Club at its old location). Our club continues to grow. The pro-rated
membership drive that started in September has generated over 45 NEW members
so far, and along with the current membership of 149 members shows that we
are only getting bigger and better and I look forward to a great 2008.
Thanks,
Mike Hessong* (MH*)
